Dental Implant Nerve Impairment

One of the primary causes of dental implant failure is nerve impairment.

There are many nerves running through the jaw. The most prominent one is the inferior alveolar nerve which runs along the lower jaw, in the mandibular canal.

The best way to avoid nerve impairment is with careful diagnostic procedures. A three-dimensional CT scan is really required to disclose the position of the mandibular canal in three dimensions. Anything less increases the risk of invasion of this canal during the surgery.

To read about Dr. Chal's careful diagnostic procedures, see his page on dental implant diagnostics on his main web site.
